First of all, I would like to know about the concept behind the recording of Tyranny. In an interview you said that “the less people involved the better”..why didn’t the band want people from the outside to collaborate?

I would say the meaning behind the record is a good question to be answered by Julian . Yes, in my opinion too many cooks can be a bad scene while making/recording/writing music. even the best minds together can cancel out greatness.

En primer lugar, me gustaría saber sobre el concepto detrás de la grabación de Tyranny. En una entrevista dijiste que “menos personas involucradas, mejor” .. ¿por qué  la banda no quería  que colaborara gente de afuera?

Yo diría que el significado detrás del disco es una buena pregunta para ser respondida por Julian. Sí, en mi opinión demasiados cocineros pueden ser una mala escena mientras que  se hace / graba / escribe música, incluso las mejores mentes juntas pueden anular la grandeza.

Every time I listen to Tyranny I pick up different sounds and textures, did it take a long time to create such a meticulous album?
It took a lot of time to really sum up what was important and cool to finalize the songs for the record.
Sometimes we would just layer stuff and then strip it away .
You have to hear it all !! Sit with it for a while then select the cool moments and remove the excess.
It’s kinda like carving on a piece of wood

Cada vez que escucho a Tyranny recojo diferentes sonidos y texturas, se tarda mucho tiempo para crear un disco tan meticuloso?
Tomó mucho tiempo resumir realmente  lo que era importante y cool para finalizar las canciones para el album.
En algún momento nosotros sumábamos capa de cosas y luego las tirábamos a la basura.
tienes que escucharlo todo !! Sentate con él durante un tiempo y luego seleccioná los momentos geniales y eliminá el exceso.
Es un poco como tallar en un trozo de madera.

What bands, musicians or records do you think are creating something new and different?

¿Qué bandas o músicos  crees que está creando algo nuevo y diferente?

During an interview Julian said that this is a protest record. Do you think that Tyranny can stimulate a change in society and what message do you want to give?

 I think all new music changes things in the world. As far as our record tyranny is concerned listeners will take or believe or think different about the meaning of the record. most importantly I was just trying to add the best of my artist ability .

Durante una entrevista Julian dijo que Tyranny es un álbum de protesta. ¿Crees que puede estimular un cambio en la sociedad y qué mensaje quiere dar?

Creo que toda la nueva música cambia las cosas en el mundo. En cuanto a Tyranny, los oyentes interesados pensarán o creerán  diferente sobre el significado del álbum. Lo más importante es que sólo estaba tratando de añadir lo mejor de mi capacidad artista.

Recently you’ve been touring in Europe and South America too. I was lucky to attend your show at Lollapalooza Argentina, it really blew my mind. But, there were some people who thought that it was way too loud. Later I heard that it was intentional… what impact are you hoping to cause during live performances?
I think in our earlier shows we where still figuring the live sonic things out.
To loud is never bad it’s when it’s to harsh frequency wise that u have a problem. We learned from playing and made small changes here and there and it all started to become what we imaged and Yes I think Julian had a plan of what he wanted it to sound like live from day-one but we then had to start the long journey of creating it.

Recientemente  han estado de gira en Europa y América del Sur. Tuve la suerte de asistir a su show en Lollapalooza Argentina, lo que realmente me dejó alucinada. Pero, hubo algunas personas que pensaban que era demasiado ruidoso. Más tarde me enteré de que fue intencional … ¿qué impacto espera lograr durante las actuaciones en vivo?

Creo que en nuestros shows anteriores todavía estábamos calculando el sonido en vivo.
Muy fuerte nunca es malo, pero cuando la frecuencia es demasiado dura, ahí tenés un problema. Hemos aprendido  tocando e hicimos pequeños cambios aquí y allá, y todo empezó a ser lo que imaginábamos,  y Sí creo que Julian tenía un plan de lo que él quería sonar como en vivo desde el día uno, pero luego tuvimos que comenzar el largo viaje de crearlo.

What profession would you have if you werent a musician? And which would you avoid at all costs, and why?

If not a musican then a electronics repair guy I loving fixing things .
I’d avoid being a politician and a policeman

¿Qué profesión tendrías si no fueses un músico? Y cuál evitaría  a toda costa, y por qué?

Si no fuera un músico entonces sería  un tipo de reparación electrónica, ya que amo reparar cosas.
Evitaría ser un político o un policía.

How was the experience of directing “Where no Eagles Fly”?
I’ve made many videos it’s always been a huge passion of mine. It took Tonz of work and time but was amazingly fun to complete. I wanted it to have heart and be true to who we really are. Main idea was to make a artist analog vibe video using VHS Beta and 8mm film all done with not using computers.

 ¿Cómo fue la experiencia de dirigir “Where no Eagles Fly”?
He hecho muchos videos siempre ha sido una gran pasión mía. Tomó toneladas de trabajo y tiempo, pero fue increíblemente divertido para completar. Yo quería que tuviera corazón y sea fiel a lo que realmente somos. La idea principal era hacer un video análogo artístico, utilizando VHS Beta y película de 8 mm todo hecho sin usar computadoras.

Finally, I must ask this; What is it like working with Julian Casablancas?

 Working with Julian has been a great experience and has made me 10x a better artist . He truly has a rare way of doing things and is one of my best friends.

Trabajar con Julian ha sido una gran experiencia y me ha hecho 10 veces un mejor artista. Él realmente tiene una forma rara de hacer las cosas y es uno de mis mejores amigos.
